Feelin' Film

In a time when film criticism is as provocative as ever, Feelin' Film ventures to change the discussion from what we hate about a film to what we love about it. We judge more on emotional experience than technical merit. Every movie makes us feel something.

We've reached the penultimate episode of book-to-movie month. This week we're tackling the Francis Ford Coppola adaptation of S.E. Hinton's classic novel, The Outsiders. This film's cast list reads like a who's who of eventual Hollywood stars, and though the plot is a familiar one it is no less moving. We get into the film's themes and try our best to "stay gold" throughout.

It's week three of our book-to-movie series here in September and in this episode we are discussing the 2012 David O. Russell adaptation of Matthew Quick's hit novel. Silver Linings Playbook offers us a peak into lives we don't often see on a Hollywood screen, and particularly not in a way that results in romance. We have a great time discussing how these relationships make us feel and what we might learn from them.

IT just so happens that a particular box office smash of a horror film is opening during our book-to-movie month and IT fits our theme perfectly. So here we are, after having forced Patrick to watch movie in his least favorite genre, discussing the new 2017 adaptation of Stephen King's classic scary clown novel. We try to do IT justice as we talk about ITs scares, ITs character depth, and ITs themes. We hope you enjoy... IT.

It's week two of class in our book-to-movie month, and this episode we are discussing a film we both have an extreme affection for. Stephen Chbosky’s incredible story, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, is so much more than just another teenage coming-of-age tale. We get deep, raw, and emotional as we talk about the movie and how we relate to its characters. It's a special conversation and one we'd love for you to be a part of it by sharing your Connecting Point in our Facebook group after you listen.

We kick off book-to-movie month with arguably the best summer blockbuster ever made. Jurassic Park is one of those special films that evokes such a sense of awe and wonder that it captures the imaginations of adults and children alike. We talk through some of the present themes and reminisce about our own experiences with this Steven Spielberg masterpiece.
